Hozmilator
Original steel rake that I replaced
Axle and wheels fully assembled
A bit too colorful on the TIG welds but still fun
Welded axle assembly
Full rake in use out on the flats
Learning
TIG welding thicker SS without the best of setups
Working with someone else to discover design requirements and then determine the design.
Considering how all parts could withstand the harsh environment of the clam flats.
Description
I worked for a year on a clam and oyster farm assisting with all parts of the operation. One important part of planting clams is ensuring that "run" where the clams will be planted is free from predators. This is where the Holzmilator rake came in. We used it every-time we planted clams and the steel version that we used was falling apart completely. I was tasked with designing and building a replacement that wouldn't degrade in the same way. The design we settled on was easy to fabricate while still having the necessary weight and adjustability to make its use easy.
